Why I’m Running
I am running for the California State Senate and seek your support.
I have spent my adult life working to establish and protect basic civil and human rights, at home and abroad, and to ensure greater safety and opportunity for women and children. I co-founded a successful non-profit fighting genocide in Africa and directly serving survivors of rape, genocide and atrocity. I served as President of the California Women’s Law Center, co-founded by LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, through which I have fought for women’s equality and for the civil rights of women and girls under Title IX and beyond. And as President of California Women Lawyers I was a leader in the effort to preserve a woman’s right to choose and to close the justice gender gap by successfully advocating for the appointment of qualified women to the courts.
As your next State Senator I will fight to protect our environment, create high wage jobs by rebuilding our public infrastructure and fully fund our public schools. I’ll use my proven leadership skills to fight discrimination and promote civil rights for all; I will be a leader in the expansion of fair pay and family leave. You can be assured based upon my long record of accomplishments, that if elected, I will be an effective leader who will fight for your interests in Sacramento!
I am proud to have broad support and many endorsements, including United States Senator Dianne Feinstein, LA County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, Supervisor (and former State Senator) Sheila Kuehl, former Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, LA City Attorney Mike Feuer, LA City Controller Ron Galperin, former LA City Controller Laura Chick, former Congressman Howard Berman, former City of Agoura Hills Mayor and current Council Member Illece Buckley Weber, former member of the State Legislature, Richard Katz, and our neighboring State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson.
